Ford History - Click to expand
Ford Motor Company is one of the most famous car companies in the world. Founded in 1903 by Henry Ford it is currently the second largest car manufacturer in the US and fifth worldwide. The first car produced was the Ford Model A and the company was instantly profitable.
Over the years an incredible range of Ford cars have been produced. The Model T was the first Ford to be built at the company's own factory. Over 18,000 rolled off the production line in 1909. Innovative production techniques combined with high pay for jobs assured Ford was at the forefront of emerging car markets.
Henry Ford II, (Ford's grandson) took control of the company after WW2 and introduced new iconic models, such as the Thunderbird in 1955 and the Mustang in 1964. By 1965, Ford sales had passed two million cars per year in the US alone.
Established in 1967, Ford of Europe merged British and German operations and introduced the successful Escort in 1968 and the Fiesta in 1976. These cars established Ford as a major brand within this lucrative market. Reliability ensured that used Ford cars were a common sight on the roads of Europe.
