The Jeep Wrangler is one of American automaker Chrysler’s most popular vehicles to date. Iconic and popular among off-roaders, the Wrangler has already gone through four generations in production. The Wrangler brand has also been handled by various auto manufacturers, including American Motors Corporation, Arab American Vehicles of Egypt and the Iranian auto manufacturer Pars Khodro.

The Wrangler was first introduced in1987 as a four-wheel drive compact SUV and convertible with emphasis on its off-road capabilities. It was designed after the World War II Willys CJ Jeeps.

The first Wrangler was the YJ which was marketed from 1987 to 1995, replacing the CJ jeeps in the segment. Slight changes were made to the YJ’s look, engine and transmissions between the years 1992 to 1996.

The TJ replaced the YJ in 1997, which reintroduced the round headlamps made famous by the original CJ. Various interior and exterior changes were made throughout the production of this version, most prominent of which include updates to the suspension system and engines.

In 2004, the TJ Wrangler Unlimited was announced. This version had a bigger wheelbase than its predecessors. The present JK version introduced in 2007 is a complete restyling of the previous generations. A longer JK Wrangler Unlimited was also introduced in 2007.
