The Kia Picanto is a front-engine, front-wheel drive urban mini produced starting 2004. Its platform is based on the earlier model Hyundai Getz. Sales of the Picanto have been growing because of its price and impressive mileage. The Picanto City is Kia’s offering for 2013, promising to be more economic than its predecessors.

To boost sales in the European market, improvements to the Picanto were added. These include front and rear electric windows and mirrors and a remote central locking system. Slight changes were made to the first generation Picanto in 2007 and 2010. These alterations were applied to cars that were sold in the UK, Italian and Korean markets.

The 2011 Geneva Motor Show marked the introduction of the second generation Picanto. This model was designed under the supervision of Peter Schreyer, the chief design officer for Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors.

The Picanto is trailed by the Vauxhall Agila, Honda HR-V and Suzuki Alto in the same category.
