In August of the year 2000, the Korean automobile manufacturer Kia Motors released a subcompact car which was called Kia Rio. This car was created as a successor of two earlier car models, namely, Kia Pride and Kia Avella.

                The first generation of this car lasted from 2000 until 2005, and this version of the Rio was also called the DC, Rio Cinco in United States, Rio RX-V in Canada, Rio SF in South Korea, and Rio Stylus in Colombia. This was assembled in South Korea, Ecuador, and Iran, and it was available as a four door sedan and a five door hatchback.

                In 2005, the second generation was released in Europe (2006 for North America), and was assembled in South Korea, Philippines, China, Ecuador, and Indonesia. This version was still available in the same body style as the first one, and it is related to the Hyundai Accent.

                The third generation Kia Rio was released in 2011 and was first displayed at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1, 2011. This model was still based on the Hyundai Accent and it is assembled in the same places as the second generation, with the addition of a plant in Russia. It is available as a three door hatchback, a five door hatchback, and a four door sedan.
