Land Rover, a known British automobile maker, released a new model called the Land Rover Discovery in the year 1989. This is an offroad mid sized sport utility vehicle (SUV) that has a front engine, four wheel drive layout. The assembly of the cars is done in places including Solihull in United Kingdom, Aqaba in Jordan, and Pretoria in South Africa.

                The first Discovery was released in the period 1989 until 1998, which was available as a three door and a five door SUV. The code name for this vehicle was Project Ray, and it was Conran Design Group who was tasked to create the car’s interior. Discovery Series II was released in the autumn of 1998 and it lasted until 2004 as a five door SUV.

                Discovery 3, also called LR3, was released in 2004 and remained in the market until 2009. It is still a five door SUV and was designed by Andy Wheel. This is closely related to the Range Rover Sport, which is a luxury type SUV developed in the United Kingdom in 2005.

                The current model of the Land Rover Discovery is what is known as Discovery 4 or LR4, as it is called in North America. This was produced beginning in 2009 and it is a five door SUV that is also related to the Range Rover Sport. This model was designed by Gerry McGovern.
