The mid-sized coupe Mercedes CLK car is based on the C-Class model, however, its engine, styling and price range is very similar to the E-Class. It was first produced in 1996 as a more affordable option than other Mercedes convertibles such as the SL. It was made available as both a coupe and a convertible.

The first-generation CLK was available from 1996 to 2002 in a number of different versions with different engine sizes, including a CLK GTR racing coupe with a V12 engine. In 2003 the CLK was redesigned and, although the styling was similar to the previous generation, it had smoother lines and was substantially larger than its predecessor, making it more spacious. Used Mercedes-Benz CLKs can be found with two different trim versions; Elegance, which is a Luxury version with polished alloy wheels and a burr walnut trim, and Avantgarde which is a sport version with wider, sportier wheels. Mercedes-Benz CLK cars therefore reach a wide market, appealing to those looking for a traditionally luxurious Mercedes and those who prefer a sportier version.

The CLK is a fantastic creation because it combines affordability, style and all the luxury one would expect from Mercedes. It is an athletic drive but also a stylish four-seat family car. With a large choice of engines to choose from, the CLK can be powerful yet practical, sporty but safe. Therefore, above all, it is adaptable, and perhaps that is why it has been one of Mercedes most popular cars since it was first unveiled in 1996.
