History of Mercedes SLK
The Mercedes Benz SLK Class is a car model that is manufactured by the German automobile manufacturer, Mercedes Benz, that was first launched in 1996. This car is available in three generations and is created as a two door coupé or a two door convertible. It follows an FR layout, or a front engine, rear wheel drive layout that is popular during the 20th century.
The first generation of the SLK Class was manufactured in the years 1996 until 2004 and is called the R170. This is assembled in Bremen, Germany and in East London, South Africa. The R170 is designed by Murat Gunak in 1993 and it is available as a 5-speed automatic, a 5-speed manual, and a 6-speed manual.
In 2004, the R171 was released by Mercedes Benz. This is the second generation in the SLK Class and is assembled in Bremen, Germany. It is available as a 7-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual, and this car was seen at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2004. The car remained in the market until 2011 before it was replaced by the third generation SLK or the Mercedes Benz R172. This is also a sports car or roadster that is assembled in Germany and is available in the same transmission as the second generation.
The Mercedes Benz SLK Class has been known as the Car and Driver Ten Best in 2005, and it was also awarded he Canadian Car of the Year’s Best New Convertible. Another achievement of this car is its involvement in the popular music video, Gangnam Style, and set a Guinness World Record by being driven to 116 countries by Jim Rogers and Paige Parker.
