Mini One History - Click to expand
The BMW MINI One is a 21st century update to the classic car that was named the 'European Car of the Century'. The original Mini was a pioneer of the compact car format, and offered innovations including front wheel drive and increased space efficiency in the interior. Designed in Britain by Sir Alec Issigonis, the original Mini Cooper remains a well known part of popular culture. The Mini gained popularity at a time when fuel was at a premium, so a means of getting about without spending a lot on petrol was needed. When the Mini was introduced, the compact car market was booming at unprecedented levels and the car quickly became an international success.
MINI One cars are an update to this long standing design. Brought to market by BMW in 2001, MINI One sales have been strong ever since. The MINI One builds upon the same aesthetic lines as the original, but is larger, providing a more spacious interior to suit the needs of modern drivers who would find the storage and seating capacity of the 1960s design very limiting. The new BMW MINI range has been extensively redesigned, but retains the wide wheelbase, 4-cylinder engine and front-wheel drive configuration of the original vehicles. The car effectively fills the gap in the BMW range for a small, more affordable car. Secondhand Mini One cars are available with petrol or diesel engines, and subsequent versions have been made with convertible options available. Models made from 2007 onwards feature a complete redesign based on improvements from NCAP testing.
The MINI One effectively evokes the classic '60s design, and used MINI One cars are available at great prices while providing both BMW quality and an attractive vintage style.
