Peugeot 107 History - Click to expand
French car manufacturer, Peugeot, introduced the Peugeot 107 as a city car class model in 2005. It was designed as a replacement for the Peugeot 106, a supermini class car which was in production up until the year 2004. The original design for the Peugeot 107 was developed as a result of the B-Zero project. This was a venture that saw PSA Peugeot Citroen and Toyota join forces to develop a small city car. The Peugeot 107 was designed as a four seat compact car, available in a three or five door hatchback version, as were the Toyota Aygo and the Citroen C1.
In 2009 Peugeot 107 cars were given a design overhaul in line with the design changes made to both the Citroen C1 and the Toyota Aygo. In a bid to give the car a sportier appearance, and thus make it more appealing to a higher class market, aesthetic changes were made to the wheel trims, the bumper and the interior. Peugeot also made certain engineering enhancements to improve fuel efficiency, and to make this model more environmentally friendly.
The Peugeot 107 is often praised for its reliability, and it has featured prominently on several 'top ten' lists of the most reliable cars in its sub-small car category. It is this record of reliability that makes a new or a used Peugeot 107 the popular choice with drivers who are city dwellers, or who just want a dependable and economic car to drive. In late 2010, Peugeot 107 sales reached the 500,000 mark, meaning that Peugeot has sold an average of around 100,000 of these cars per each year of production. Impressive sales of this model have been recorded across Europe.
