The Cayman is a mid-engine, two-seater sports car produced by the German manufacturer, Porsche. A coupe with a design based on the second generation of the Porsche Boxster convertible, its development took two years, and production saw most of the models being manufactured in Finland by Valmet Automotive. When the design was first unveiled in September 2005 it was at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It went on sale just under a year later, in the summer of the 2006. The name, Porsche Cayman, came from the alternative spelling of the word caiman, a small reptile of the alligator family.

The design of the first Porsche Cayman cars was highly influenced by two classic Porsche models: the Porsche 550 Coupe and the 904 Coupe. It was originally designed to fill the gap existing between the cheaper Porsche Boxster and the more expensive Porsche 911. In February 2009 the second generation Cayman was introduced to the market, with Porsche increasing the standard engine size from 2.7L to 2.9L, thus giving the Porsche Cayman S a 250bhp boost to increase its power to a new level of 320bhp.

The Porsche Cayman has received numerous awards during its short production history. It was awarded 'Automobile' magazine's 'Best Sports Car' in 2006 and the 'All-Star' award in 2007. It has gained numerous other awards from magazines such as 'Playboy', 'Car and Driver', and 'Auto Express'. As well as achieving a successful record in Porsche Cayman sales, the company has become an acknowledged force in the racing world. In the 2007 Nurburgring 24 Hour race, the Porsche Cayman finished fourth out of 220 entrants. Used Porsche Caymans are still a firm favourite in the market with buyers who welcome the lower price of the secondhand Porsche Cayman.
