The Renault Kangoo was launched in 1997 to create a panel van/leisure activity vehicle with a large amount of space for more passengers and/or luggage than traditional alternative vehicles.

Chronology

Launched in 1997 the Kangoo remained largely unchanged until a second phase was produced in 2003 with new nose styling and teardrop shaped headlights.

A Kangoo Express model has rear windows which can be removed to produce a panel van. This model is popular for those with wheelchairs, which can be held in the back of the vehicle with easy loading.

From 2002 the Kangoo and Kangoo Express have been available in four wheel drive. Known as the Kangoo Trekka, the four wheel drive model has improved suspension and a lengthened version is available for extra storage.

In 2008 a Kangoo Evolution model was produced, and is still being manufactured. This is a light commercial vehicle based on the Renault Scenic, and is often used for deliveries.

A new model, to be named the Kangoo Express Z. E. will be produced, which will be an electric vehicle, with zero carbon emissions. The vehicle will offer greater fuel economy. The vehicle is expected to be launched in 2011 and Renault Kangoo sales are expected to remain strong.

Achievements and Benefits

One of the key appealing features of the Renault Kangoo is its extensive storage. It is possible to alter the layout by folding away two seats to create up to 2600 litres of boot space, large enough for luggage or even a wheelchair. Sliding doors make loading the vehicle as simple as possible. The vehicle can accommodate five people and a large amount of luggage. This made Renault Kangoo cars appealing when they were first produced and it makes them appealing today as new or nearly new cars. Used Renault Kangoo cars still offer good fuel economy, reliability and value for money.
