A History of the Renault Kangoo
The Renault Kangoo is a leisure activity vehicle produced since 1997. Throughout its production, the Renault has been rebadged and sold by other brands worldwide, which includes the Nissan Kubistar, Nissan NV200, and Mercedes-Benz Citan. The Kangoo is widely used by France’s postal service La Poste.
Kangoo generation one came in two phases. The first phase model underwent a facelift in 2003, which was influenced by the Kangoo Break’Up concept of 2002. The second phase carried the iconic Renault rounded nose style. The Kangoo is notable because removing the rear window and seats would produce the Kangoo Express panel van, which was popular among those who needed a wheelchair-friendly vehicle. A lengthened version, a version with third row seating, and a pickup truck version were produced and sold in various markets.
The Kangoo Trekka, a 4WD edition, was produced in 2002. This edition had Nissan’s ATC hydraulic coupling system and an ASR traction control system for better traction.
The current generation, a light commercial vehicle named New Renault Kangoo unveiled at the 2008 Paris Motor Show, was based on the Renault Scenic. It comes in 4 body styles: the Compact, Van, Van Maxi, and Maxi Crew. A plug-in electric edition, the Kangoo Z.E., has also been produced and is one of France’s top selling in the segment.
