The French multinational automobile manufacturer, Renault, created a compact multi purpose vehicle or MPV in the year 1996, which came to be called the Renault Scénic. This was created as a five door multi purpose vehicle that has a front engine, four wheel drive or front engine, front wheel drive layout. The Scénic is also called the Renault Mégane Scénic.

                The Scénic is the first car to be labeled as a compact multi purpose vehicle in the European market. The first generation called the Scéenic I was produced in the years 1996 until 2003, and it was first a concept car that was designed by the then Renault designer Anne Asensio. In 2003, the Scénic II or the second generation version of the car was released.

                The current version of the Renault Scénic is the Scénic III which was produced since 2009. In May of the same year, the Grand Scénic, a seven seater compact MPV version of the car, was produced and offered in countries like the United Kingdom. Facelift versions of the car include the Scénic RX4 and the Scénic Conquest. Sales of the Scénic in the UK began early in the year 1997, and among its competitors in the market include Fiat Multipla, Vauxhall Zafira, Nissan Almera Tino, and Citroën Xsara Picasso. It has been recognized as the European Car of the Year in 1997 and it was also called the Car of the Year in 1997 by “What Car?”.
