Seat Alhambra History - Click to expand
The SEAT Alhambra cars are manufactured under the SEAT brand name by the Volkswagen Group. Originally manufactured in 1996, the first generation Mk1 Type 7M lasted until 2010, while the second generation Mk2 Type 7N first rolled off the production lines in that same year. It is a larger MPV with seating for seven. Both generations were and are manufactured in Palmela, Portugal at the AutoEuropa Plant. The model name "Alhambra" was derived from one of Spain's most famous monuments, the Alhambra of Granada. It was first introduced at the Geneva Salon International de l'Auto of 1995 and SEAT Alhambra sales began the following year in 1996.
The first generation was manufactured with a choice of six diesel and three petrol engines, as well as a 6-speed manual or 7-speed Tiptronic (combination manual and automatic) transmission. The second generation Mk2 Type 7N was manufactured with two diesel and two petrol engines while offering a manual and DSG automatic transmission. SEAT Alhambra sales have exceeded 250,000 vehicles since its inception in 1996. The vehicle underwent a major restyling to reflect the new image that the company was trying to project. With the five rear seats being either movable or removable, the SEAT Alhambra has a lot of built-in flexibility.
For a vehicle that has been manufactured for less than 20 years, the SEAT Alhambra has received a number of significant awards, although there was only one issued to the first generation (1997 Monovolume do Ano - Portugal). However, the second generation Mk2 Type 7N has won seven distinct awards in Germany (2), Portugal (1), Spain (1), and the UK (3). The UK awards were all issued in 2011 and include the British magazines "Diesel Car" and "What Car", along with the UK Fleet World Honours award. Whether you are considering the purchase of a used SEAT Alhambra or a new one, there is a good possibility that you won't be disappointed.
