SsangYong Motor Company has undergone an extensive amount of corporate development, production experience and influence on the Korean car industry. It began its engineering history as the Ha Dong-hwan Motor Company before changing its name and starting continuous manufacturing of four-wheel drive SsangYong cars after acquiring Geohwa Ltd.

As the fourth largest car production factory in South Korea, during the war years the manufacturer built Jeeps for the United States.
