Ssangyong History - Click to expand

SsangYong Motor Company has undergone an extensive amount of corporate development, production experience and influence on the Korean car industry. It began its engineering history as the Ha Dong-hwan Motor Company before changing its name and starting continuous manufacturing of four-wheel drive SsangYong cars after acquiring Geohwa Ltd. As the fourth largest car production factory in South Korea, during the war years the manufacturer built Jeeps for the United States. Utilising their experience, in 1988 the SsangYong business team came together with Daimler-Benz. The acquisition of new engine technology and expert design knowledge kick-started SsangYong sales growth. The Company released the Musso in 1993, shortly followed by the Korando in 1996. This achievement opened up a brand new market and customer base to explore. The affiliation continued to progress; the manufacturer took advantage of the innovative design and advanced technology successes of Mercedes-Benz and continued production of small commercial vehicles in 1991, deluxe passenger cars, as well as petrol and diesel engines in 1993. In 2010, SsangYong Motors was acquired by Mahindra & Mahindra Limited. The manufacturer's expertise in a large and varied market could be the key to SsangYong's survival in the car manufacture industry. In 1966 SsangYong Motors established the production of buses in Korea and the export of SsangYong cars and other transport vehicles. The brand continues to open new areas of the car industry to this day, building SUV and RVs. Additionally, the Rexton has become a popular secondhand SsangYong choice as it offers the driver a smooth city car experience as well as off road capabilities, due to its design as a mid-size sport vehicle.
