Where vehicle comfort and practicality are concerned, the Toyota Aygo has excelled since it first went into production. Although the decision to manufacture the vehicle occurred in July of 2001, by the presidents of PSA Peugeot Citroën and Toyota, it didn't go into production and hit the car market until four years later in 2005. Today, they are being manufactured at the TPCA (Toyota Peugeot Citroën Automobile Czech in the Czech Republic city of Kolin. It was first displayed at the Salon de l'Automobile de Genève (Geneva Motor Show) in 2005.

The name Aygo is derived from the expression "I go" which symbolises mobility and freedom. With a planned production of 300,000 vehicles annually, Toyota Aygo sales began in July of 2005 and they are now available in either a 3-door or 5-door hatchback format. There are two engines currently available, one of which is a 1.0 litre, 3-cylinder, while the other is a 1.4 litre HDi diesel engine. Additionally, Toyota Aygo cars received a 4-star rating from Euro NCAP (the European New Car Assessment Programme).

There was a slight facelift given to the vehicle in 2009 in the form of a new front bumper and grille, as well as newer rear light clusters. Fuel economy was improved and there was a noticeable decrease in CO2 emissions as well. Newer colours were also added to the mix. One major accomplishment of this vehicle is the fact that it has an airy cabin with a surprising amount of interior room space that is ideal for 4 adults. For a smaller vehicle, whether it is new or a used Toyota Aygo, the ride is surprisingly supple and the driver and passengers are well-protected against bumps in the road.
