Vauxhall Vectra cars were produced over a period of twenty years by German manufacturing giant Opel; first manufactured in 1988, the model sold well up to its replacement by the Insignia in mid-2008. Between 1988 and 1995 the model was marketed as the Vauxhall Cavalier, before becoming the Vectra and finally the Insignia.

The first Vectra, or Vectra A, was known by the UK market as a Vauxhall Cavalier and was available in both hatchback and saloon form. The model was available in both petrol and diesel forms, and came with a five speed, manual transmission gearbox, as well as a four speed automatic version.

The Vectra B was the first to actually be called a Vectra in the UK, and replaced the successful Vauxhall Cavalier. Visually similar to the original Cavalier, the Vauxhall Vectra was available in estate form for the first time, opening potential sales to a new market of customers. The Vectra was manufactured at two plants in the UK as well as six other around the globe.

By 2002 the Vauxhall Vectra C was available, and remained in production until the Insignia replaced it in 2008. The third generation of the model ensured that Vauxhall Vectra sales would further increase. However, predecessors of the Vectra C always remained as the fourth best selling car in the UK, whilst this model never managed to climb higher than tenth.

Used Vauxhall Vectras are often a good purchase for those looking for a multi purpose vehicle. The successful mass quantity production of the vehicle ensures that a secondhand Vectra will be available at a reasonable price and in above average condition. Although the Vectra is now redundant, having given way to the Insignia, it should still be regarded as a worthwhile purchase for those looking for an affordable secondhand vehicle.
