The Volkswagen Passat is a vehicle made by Volkswagen, the German-based automobile manufacturing company. The Passat is known to be one of Volkswagen’s best automobile models. It is classified as a family car, an automobile variant Volkswagen is not normally associated with. Regardless, the Passat has become one of Volkswagen’s most popular car models. This may be proved by the fact that the Passat has a total of 6 generations of evolution under its belt. Other names for the Passat include Carat, Dasher, Quantum, and many more.

        The VW Passat was first introduced to the market back in 1973. It has now been in production for over 40 years, and counting. The Passat is considered to be the very first car under the “new generation” of the Volkswagen vehicles. The Passat’s creation was preceded first by Volkswagen’s gain of Audi which happened sometime in the year 1964.

        The name Passat originated from the German translation for trade wind. The naming of the VW Passat after well-known types of winds is not unusual, since some of the cars Volkswagen manufactured which came out the same time the Passat did were also named after famous winds. One of the most famous ones is the Volkswagen Golf, named after the winds along the Gulf Stream.
