Volvo C30 History - Click to expand
The Volvo C30 was introduced in 2006. It is a small family coupe car. Volvo has positioned it as a luxury hatchback or sports coupe. It is aimed at younger and first-time car buyers. Volvo C30 sales have been steady at about 40,000 sold per year.
The basis of the C30 is the Volvo P1 platform, which is essentially the Ford C1 platform. The 1800ES car inspired the exterior design, while the interior is similar to the V50 and S40 vehicles. It is a two-door car making it ideal for younger people who live in cities. There is a range of models from the 1.6 to the T5.
The Volvo C30 cars have many design features aimed at improving safety. Inside there is a crash safety structure to prevent occupants from being hurt, and it has a special spoiler located under the front bumper to reduce the likelihood of leg injuries to anyone in a collision with the car. It has side-impact protection and a special system to help prevent whiplash injuries caused by collisions from behind.
In 2010, there was an update to the car, with the headlights, front body panels and grille all being modified to make it look more contemporary. There is also an option available that has a new sports chassis. As it is a fairly new car, finding a nearly new Volvo C30 will be easier than obtaining any older second-hand models.
The Volvo C30 has been used as the basis of an electric prototype car. It was presented at the Paris Motor Show in 2010 and was called the 'C30 DRIVe'. Ranking high as one of five finalists in the Green Car Vision Award. Volvo intends to produce a very limited amount of these cars, perhaps a few hundred, and lease them to various business customers in Europe.
