Large families looking for an MPV that offers nice style, powerful engine options and upscale interior options will be lapse not to consider the Citroen C8 and its bevy of options. The C8 offers a nice list of options including three engine options, three trim levels and various safety options.
Engine choices include a 2.0-litre diesel, a 2.2-litre diesel and a 2.0-litre petrol. Both diesel powered engines offer good power and fuel consumption. The 2.0-litre comes in either a 120bhp or 136bhp option.
The 2.2-litre HDi diesel powered engines delivers a strong punch with 173bhp that give a little surprise to those people expecting a slow get-up-and-go. Of course the 11.4 second 0-60mph speed off the line isn’t going to set any land speed records, but one has to remember that we are discussing a large MPV not a BMW 5-series. However most will be impressed with how easy the 2.2.-litre moves around other cars.
People looking for non-diesel power can choose the 2.0-litre petrol powered option. The petrol engine should be avoided by drivers who normally run around with a very heavy cargo as this engine only give off 190NM of torque. The engine is for people with smaller children who stay in the city.
The interior of the C8 is nicely appointed with some interesting touches. One of those touches is the “child view” rear-view mirror that allows the driver to easily see into the back area without having to turn away from the road ahead. Also impressive is the fifty-or-so compartments scattered about the cabin, the triple sunroofs, the swiveling front seats and the refrigerated drink holders.
The cabin will easily fit up to eight regular sixed adults who will be able to easily move about due to the completely flat floor throughout. If less room for people is needed, Citroen has included their patented “Quickfix” instant anchoring system what allows for anyone to easily slide, fold or remove the rear seats. The cargo area has an outrageous load capacity of 3,000 litres.
Adding even more fun to the interior the seats are adjustable in almost every direction. The seats spin, fold, slide and detach. Also includes is a four-zone air-conditioner that will help counter the effects of the three sunroofs. Other cool additions are the light sensitive headlamps, automatic windscreen wipers, rear parking sensors, guide-me-home headlights and remote control operation of the windows, door mirrors, sliding door and sunroofs.
On the safety front it is good to note the C8 was the first large MPV to receive the highly coveted five-star Euro NCAP rating for occupant safety. This means that the parents can have peace of mind that if something bad happens their brood will be safer in the C8 than in any other large MPV. All C8 trim levels come standard with six airbags, anti-lock braking featuring EBD and EBA as well as ESP.
The C8 comes in three trim levels: LX, SX and Exclusive. Even the entry level LX has great features that include electronic stability control, automatic air conditioning, cruise control with speed limiter, an MP3 compatible CD stereo and leather on the steer wheel and gear knob. The Exclusive models come with 16-inch Ispapan allow wheels, leather appointed seats and parking sensors at both ends. The interior of all levels has been given a nice re-do that includes superior materials with soft-touch plastics and chrome detailing throughout.
