Mazda 6 sales for the second generation began after its unveiling in 2007 at the Frankfurt Auto Show. These cars were based on the Mazda GH chassis. Three body styles are available: four-door saloon, five-door hatchback, and estate. The steering was improved and the hatchback version was given more boot space. The new 2011 Mazda 6 was unveiled at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. Upgrades of these Mazda 6 models included the headlights, fog lights and the addition of 17 inch alloy wheels, as well as a new steering wheel and improved seat materials for the interior. In terms of awards, the first generation won second place in the 2003 'European of the Year' magazine. The second generation Mazda 6 won the 2010 Family Car of the Year Award by 'What Car?' magazine. Used Mazda 6 vehicles have been driven by the Baglie racing team and used in the KONI Challenge Series Sport Touring class.
