*************************

Megane is a small family car that some claim grew up to be the Renault Scenic. The original Renault Megane I rolled off production lines in 1995 as a replacement for the Renault 19. It was a retool of the 19's chassis design, engine, floor plan and transmission but it was heavily modified.

The Renault Megane cars are one of the most versatile lines for Renault, since its 1995 debut. Configured into convertible, coupe, hatchback, saloon and station wagon body styles the Renault Megane is available in 3-door and 5-door models.

Renault's key focus for the Megane I was safety, and the model was seriously ahead of its competitors. Its overall safety features include a driver side air bag, the 3-point middle belt, load limiters and front belt pre-tensioners. Buyers can find Renault E-type engines in 1.4L, 1.6L, 1.8L, and an F-type 1.9L diesel and a 2.0L petrol engine in secondhand Renault Megane I models.

Phase two kicked off in 1999 and the Renault Megane got more advanced safety features, upgraded equipment, 16-valve engines and a modified grill. The latest phase of Renault Megane began in 2002, featuring the LA04 engine. Produced by Renault's plants in Argentina and Columbia, Renault Magane sales have increased to point where it is one of the best-selling cars on the market to date.

The Megane I and the Megane models are both still in production. Renault produced a limited number of the Megane sports edition but when production halted, these vehicles with Renault sport bodywork became extremely rare and their value as an item for a secondhand Renault Megane collector has increased significantly.

CIMB Autoworld 'Car of the Year' Awards 2010 held their ceremony in January of 2011, where the Renault Megane RS 250 won both the Best Sports & Convertibles Award as well as the Judges' Choice Award.
