Since the launch of the Citroen C2 the company has sold over 50,000 cars in the United Kingdom. Citroen for a long time had a hard time competing with other cars in the class and now it has to compete with their own C1. Does it stand a chance? With the latest revision it has more than a chance.
The new Citroen C2 has a nice exterior redesign that includes a more distinctive front grille and a larger, more imposing front bumper. The trim colors come in much more sporty, cooler colours and upgrades that include lateral airbags on many trim levels and an MP3 compatible stereo standard on all models. Pricing for the C2 start around £10,000 and top out around £14,000.
For product ion purposes the C2 shares the same chassis, drive train and many interior and exterior parts with the Citroen C3 though one would be remiss to consider the C2 a scaled down version of the C3. The styling upfront is the same bulbous nosing that is combined with a much more unique, angled back end.
The new C2 is available in four engine choices. Those choices include three petrol powered choices that start with a 1.1-litre 61bhp then move up to a 75bhp 1.4-litre VTR and topping out with a 1.6-litre 125bhp VTS. The fourth available engine choice is a 1.4-litre HDi VTR diesel. While all the engine offer great fuel economy people looking for the best bang for the buck will want to step into the diesel powered engine. Drivers looking for the most power will want to park their seats in the 1.6-litre VTR.
No matter which power plant the driver opts for they can rest comfortable knowing that Citroen has smartly utilized all available space to give optimum comfort to tall and short alike. The C2 also has added some funkier styling choices inside that include a sexy ventilation system and a bar rev counter. The material used around the passenger cabin has also been upgraded to included higher quality materials around and a multitude of interior trim colors in both monotone and two-tone options.
Reach and rake steering adjustments are standard on all trim levels. All trim levels come complete with a can holder in the console as well as door bins that can accommodate a 500ml bottle of water or pop. For an added cost consumers can opt for some upgrades that include height adjust seats, automatic wipers, automatic headlamps, parking sensors and folding rear mirrors. The C2 also includes ABS, twin front and side airbags and power steering at all trim levels.
Citroen has made no bones about the fact that all the C2 models are made to carry no more than four people. The back seats are comfortable form fitting seats that comfortably suit normal-sized adults. Some taller adults may feel a little tight in the headspace.
Another nice touch is that the back seats, that are available as an upgrade, offer a variety of positions that allow the seats to tumble, fold, recline and size. This variety of movement allows the owner to make the rear boot suitable for almost any type of normal cargo from luggage to daily groceries.
The new Citroen C2 has a range of options that will fit almost any city dwellers lifestyle.
