Fiat Ducato – Range

When I was a kid your choices in life were simple things like ketchup or mustard, pickles or no pickles, ranch or thousand islands.  When it came to cars it was 2-door or 4-door and with vans it was cargo or passenger.   In today’s world there is an array of choices available for everything.  There are hundreds of toppings for sandwiches, thousands of dressing and it seem like a million other choices in our daily lives.  And sadly when it comes to vehicles the choices get more and more as each year advances.  People looking for a panel van are not safe from these choices either.  Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Some view it as good others just want to crawl under a blanket and hide.

If you are one of the blanket hiders who needs to buy a panel van you may just want to stay under the covers.  Choosing a panel van in the modern world may very well be one of the most difficult vehicles to chose.   It may just be easier to pick a manufacturer that you like and go from there. Even then there are a multitude of choices. Take the Fiat Ducato for example.  Fiat offers this panel van with three engine choices, three wheelbases, three roof heights, four weights and countless combinations of all of those.

All of the engine choices are MulitJet common-rail diesels.  The first option is the 2.2-litre 100bhp with 250Nm of torque, followed by the 2.3-litre 120bhp with 320Nm of Torque and finally the 3.0-litre 157bhp with 400Nm of torque.  The smallest engine comes with a 5-speed gearbox while the most powerful engines come with a 6-speed gearbox.    All the engines offer great power and will just depend on the overall use of the van.

The interior is nicely appointed with useable gadgets like the remote central locking system, electric windows, a rake adjustable steering wheel and a CD-stereo.  The steering wheel is mounted flat and is attached to variable power steering which is a first for a panel style van.  The seat is a soft and adjusts to a wide range of positions allowing the driver to suit them nicely.   Payload sizes range from 8m3 all the way up to 17m3 with payloads ranging from 1,115kg to 1850kg.

The loading area of the Ducato has a class-leading opening that all allows for maximum space to take things in and out.  The back is accessed by 2 hinged doors opening all the way and the side area can be accessed by sliding doors on both sides of the van.   A nice touch in the cargo area is the fact that the interior walls keep a flat shape almost all the way to the ceiling which allows for greater overall capacity. Many other panel vans have walls the taper in lessening the load capacity.

Safety features include anti-lock brakes with electronic brake distribution and a driver’s side airbag.   Other cost upgrade choices include ESP stability control, climate control, Fiat’s Blue & Me communication system and a rear parking camera.

There may be too many choices when it comes to sandwich toppings, but by many estimations there can never be too many choice in panel vans.    The more choices there are the better chance a business owner has at getting the panel van that suits their needs to a tee.
