The Ford Fusion has been awarded a four star NCAP adult occupancy protection rating by the European New Car Assessment Programme out of a possible five stars. While its ultra-stiff body structure provides the foundation for its excellent directional stability and control, the tough steel safety cage, with side impact door beams, absorbs energy in the event of a collision. In addition, the car features innovative sensors that activate the appropriate safety systems in a split second, such as the full-size airbags for both the driver and the front passenger, along with side impact airbags. Each seat is also fitted with an anti-submarining ramp to prevent the driver and the passengers from sliding under the seat belt in case of impact. It has the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). The ABS stops the brakes from locking the wheels, which helps prevent skidding if you have to brake when cornering, or need to make an emergency stop. Meanwhile, for stable braking and shorter stopping distance, EBD balances the braking force independently across all four wheels. It is also equipped with Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) to detect sudden changes in steering and braking, helping to prevent loss of direction and control of the vehicle. It reacts automatically when needed, applying the necessary power and braking adjustments to individual wheels, which helps reduce stopping distances in an emergency.
Its list of safety features includes clever anti-theft features. The locks: all high-security, anti-burst and shielded with strengthened mountings. Ford added an extra protective measure, its innovative, patented Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) immobiliser, which means only a pre-programmed key will start the engine.
