If you are in the market for a luxury mid-size convertible then the SC430 is definitely something to take a look at. With a 4.3 liter V-8 engine you can depend on 288 to 300 horse power depending on the year of the model you are looking at. This gem was manufactured from 2002 to 2010 and car enthusiasts everywhere were anticipating the 2011 version. But all good things must come to an end and July 2010 was the last production month and year for this car. As a salute to the SC430, Toyota offered a mere 200 collector cars to the local crowd. They named the vehicle the Eternal Jewel Edition and jazzed them up with extreme colors and customization. Each unit contains a special plate on the center council displaying the serial number of the car. There have been no recent sightings of this car in the USA.
As with anything good or fun in life you sometimes have to give up something to gain something in return. This vehicle is no exception. Although it does have four seats they are very small and some claim they are primarily unusable and you do have to give up some trunk space. But who needs it? If you are tooling around in the summer time with the top down there is plenty of room in the back for your cooler and a lawn chair or two provided you aren’t bringing any children along.
Because it has a premium Mark Levinson audio system you will be playing your music in a class above most others. With iPod/USB capabilities and satellite radio your choices for music are endless. The navigation system will get you to the beach and home with ease and the Bluetooth technology will come in handy in case you have to call home to say you’re going to be a little late. Just one touch of a button will fold down the retractable hard top and you will be all sun and fun. Break out the sunblock and Ray Bans.
This car also offers 18” alloy wheels, fog lamps, heated auto- dimming exterior mirrors with puddle lamps, power adjustable heated front seats for those chilly morning, dual-zone automatic climate control, leather with wood trim, anti-lock brakes, stability control, front and knee airbags and much more. This car has a smooth ride with barely a rumble from the V8 under the hood. This car would be great for travel if you were able to pack light. Once the top is down the trunk is gone.
There are other options available for this type of car and most will boast that they are sportier and more fun to drive. Lexus never claimed to make sporty vehicles even though that is a complaint among many Lexus lovers. Lexus makes plush, comfortable vehicles that are soft and soothing. Because that’s what they do best maybe they should stick with it. If you are looking for something rugged or sporty this is not the car for you.
