If you’re in need of a car that can transport a large group or your children daily, then the Volkswagen Golf Plus emerges as a smart choice. This model offers generous space, optimum practicality, efficient fuel economy, and an improved look from its previous generations. Its brand new exterior changes include LED technology rear lights, newly designed bumpers, and a lower profile. The Volkswagen Golf Plus comes in two trim levels: the S and SE. The SE offers more equipment such as a Park Assist system; there’s also the Golf hatchback and the Golf Plus, both of which are similar in its main mechanical parts and have the same wheelbase.
The Golf Plus comes with a diverse set of engines: four diesel and two petrol units. The 1.4-litre petrol is the entry level unit, and is only available with the S trim. This start up engine is at 80bhp, so expect only a sluggish pace and an extra slow drive when the car is full. But if you’re only after reasonable speeds around town, then the 1.4-litre unit does the job with its 43mpg average. The more powerful contender would be the 1.4-litre TSI at 122bhp—despite its small size this unit is able to accelerate towards 60mph in just 10.2 seconds. Fuel economy is also impressive at 44mpg. Partner the TSI petrol with the DSG automatic gearbox and you’ll be enjoying smooth and quick shifts.
The TDI engines are much quieter and smoother compared to the diesels offered in the older Golf Plus. The 1.6 TDI is available at either 105bhp or 90bhp, with the former acting much faster in its 12.5 seconds 0-60mph sprint. If you’re after serious speed, the 2.0 TDI at 140bhp is able to accelerate from standstill in just 9.8 seconds. Plus the 2.0-litre unit is able to pull from strong revs even while carrying a full load of luggage and passengers.
Although the latest Volkswagen Golf Plus isn’t as sharp as the 2009 model, the latest upgrade delivers well-weighted stirring and smooth gear changes. The Golf Plus’ tall height does not get in the way of controlling body roll as you turn into corners. The vehicle is also well composed along twisted roads and the ride has decent visibility to assure you a safe ride all throughout. Wind and tyre noise is kept at a minimum in the cabin, making the Golf Plus an ideal vehicle for motorway driving and for long distance trips. The comfortable seats are able to support all passengers throughout long journeys.
The Golf Plus features many similarities to its predecessors, but this model is more upmarket next to the Golf model. It still shares the same elevated driving position, decent quality on the controls and witches, and other handy features such as the same air conditioning controls and steering wheel. Leg and headroom are generous all throughout but you may have some trouble fitting three individuals out back.
The Golf Plus is able to combine the best features from its predecessor and upgrade the necessary features to keep up with the current market. This is definitely a top choice for anyone looking for a large group or family carrier.
