The Jaguar Academy of Sport has just presented 35 successful young athletes, representing the next generation of sporting talent in the UK, with the Jaguar Academy of Sport Bursary Awards in a ceremony held at The Hurlingham Club in London.
The 35 young athletes, aged between 14 and 24, have been chosen rigorously across the UK by sports people charity SportsAid. They represent 30 sporting disciplines, all of which are Paralympic and Olympic sports.
Among the recipients were Rashad Ali (Volleyball), Thomas Allen (Swimming - Racing), Edward Chambers (Weightlifting), Katy Colebourne (Wrestling), Ben Collins (Cricket), James Cook (Rowing), Rhys Davey (Triathlon), David Devey (Hockey), Emma Devine (Tennis), Kelsie Gibson (Adaptive Rowing), Emelia Gorecka, (Athletics - Middle Distance), Owen Livesey (Judo), Samuel Lowe (Cycling - Multi event), and Sophie Meering (Archery). Also included were Leah McDerment (Basketball), Christopher McDermott (Handball), Grace Reid (Swimming - Diving), Paul Van Rietvelde (Badminton), Amy Roberts (Cycling - Multi event), Jeff Saunders (Boxing), Robbie Schofield (Athletics - Middle/Long Distance), Leanne Stephen (Table Tennis), Sam Scott (Volleyball), Daniel Talbot (Athletics - Sprint), Toby Tree (Golf). They were presented with their certificates and cheques by the highly-acclaimed patrons and ambassadors of Jaguar Academy of Sport.
"We are delighted to present the first of our Jaguar Academy of Sport Bursary Awards to these outstanding young athletes. Nothing would give us greater pleasure than to see them go on to win at the highest level in their respective sports for our country", said Jaguar UK's managing director Geoff Cousins.
Launched in March 2008, the Jaguar Academy of Sport aims to acknowledge, celebrate and inspire the best of British sporting talent and success. The academy will fulfil this aim through the support of the Bursary Fund.
