4x4 vehicles still hot property in London
16 December 2008
4x4 vehicles, such as a jeep, are remaining popular in Greater London.
Despite the current economic conditions, used car drivers in London are not being put off purchasing 4x4 vehicles, according to new statistics.Experian has found in its latest used car research that although many motorists are downgrading their vehicle to make financial savings, sales of 4x4 vehicles in Greater London registered an increase.
During Q3, sales of 4x4 vehicles fell by four per cent across Britain compared to the same period last year, but in London the popularity rose by 9.4 per cent.
However, compared with other regions, London saw a fall in used Citroen, Rover and Fiat sales, but an increase was witnessed in Mercedes-Benz and BMW sales.
Kirk Fletcher, managing director of Experian's automotive division, said: "It is interesting to see that London is still the home of the most 'die hard' fans of 4x4s.
"Price consciousness is featuring more heavily for car buyers elsewhere and the more expensive to run cars are seeing a downturn in sales. In London, however, while sales of the bigger segments have slowed down, it is the smaller segments seeing the worst sales."
Recent research from Kwik-Fit found that 6.4 million motorists are planning on improving the state of their current vehicle in the next year, ahead of purchasing a new second hand car.
