Since its introduction to the UK market in 2009, the Alfa Romeo MiTo range has been a source of economical yet robust diesel derivatives. Now, the company presents the future of diesel technology with its new MultiJet II diesel engine.

The MultiJet II diesel engine will be featured in the Alfa Romeo MiTo 1.3 JTDM-2. The new engine adheres to the Alfa Romeo MiTo philosophy of decreased fuel consumption and emissions without compromising driving satisfaction and performance.

The engine will be available in three trim levels: Veloce, Lusso, and Turismo. The MultiJet II engine boosts the credentials of the Alfa Romeo MiTo as the sportiest compact vehicle in its line, offering greater power and acceleration but with lower fuel consumption and emissions.

The MultiJet II is a continuation of its developer Fiat Powertrain Technologies (FPT)s outstanding history in technological innovation.

The MultiJet was a progression of the UniJet, which made its debut on the Alfa 156 JTD in 1997. The technology enhanced the thermodynamic effectiveness of the engine by placing five injections in the same combustion cycle. This year, the Alfa Romeo MiTo will take advantage of the next generation in MultiJet technology.

Through a new balanced solenoid servo valve, the MultiJet II is capable of controlling, with high precision, the amount of fuel injected in the cylinder using a more flexible and faster injection sequence. In fact, the new MultiJet II technology has the capacity of managing eight injections in every cycle.

The second-generation 1.3-litre MultiJet also offers an engine that meets the requirements of the Euro 5 emissions legislation. In the 95bhp form, it can allow the Alfa Romeo MiTo to accelerate from 0-62mph in just 11.6 seconds, with a return of 65.7mpg in combined cycles and 112g/km of CO2 emissions.
