Aston Martin has officially announced that only a few weeks from now will see the first four-door Rapide sports cars delivered to patiently waiting customers.

The British luxury sports cars manufacturer has received a warm reception from both media observers and customers alike and is now set to commence deliveries to Aston Martin's 125 networks in 34 countries.

First revealed in concept form during the Detroit Auto Show 2006, the Rapide project instantly received a 'go-signal' from the new shareholders of Aston Martin in mid-2007 after the sale of the company by the Ford Motors. In less than two years, the dedicated engineering and design teams of Aston Martin have raised the new Rapide from scratch.

"Unveiled in production form at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2009 to worldwide acclaim, the Aston Martin Rapide encapsulates the values of Aston Martin in a four-door sports car with unrivalled performance, extremely high levels of craftsmanship and exceptionally elegant design. The Rapide is a car to savour and share, an expressive sports grand tourer that extends the Aston Martin experience to an entire family, a group of colleagues or other performance enthusiasts. Beauty, power and practicality have never been presented so seductively", stated the press release.

Functional yet elegant, the elegant Rapide can accommodate up to four adult passengers and provides a luggage space of 301 litres, while giving "an engaging driving experience synonymous with all Aston Martins". At the heart of the sedan lies an evocative hand-built 6.0 litre V12 engine delivering 470bhp at 6,000rpm and 600Nm of torque at 5,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a specifically-tuned six-speed Touchtronic 2 automatic gearbox allowing the driver to manually or automatically change gear through the steering column-mounted magnesium paddles.

The Rapide is now on sale via the international dealership network of Aston Martin.
