Astra receives top NCAP rating

26 November 2009

The Astra recently received five NCAP stars.

Used cars drivers looking to trade in their car for a safer option may be interested in a Vauxhall Astra.

The new version of the model recently attained a five-star Euro NCAP rating after it had an "outstanding" crash performance during testing.

It was found that its high standard was achieved partly as a result of its super-rigid cabin, while the active head restraints gave top protection against whiplash.

Passenger occupant protection in a frontal impact received a high score, which was enhanced by the Electronic Stability Control+ system employed in the vehicle.

In addition, an excellent rating was attributed to the passenger compartment, as the body is constructed from high-strength steel designed to create the least deformation and highest survival.

Other safety features include advanced dual seatbelt pre-tensioners, as well as six airbags, a seatbelt reminder system and Adaptive Forward Lighting, among others.

Used car drivers may also be interested in Subarus, which were recently voted as some of the safest cars on the roads by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
