Finally, the day many British aficionados of the four-ring marque have been waiting for - the new Audi A1 compact hatchback has switched on the green light for ordering in the UK, with deliveries expected to commence in late 2010. The smallest model in the Audi line-up - the A1 is priced starting from £13,145 on-the-road going up to £18,280 on-the-road and will be available in S line, SE, and Sport line trim levels.
All three trim levels available for the UK are equipped with a comprehensive list of standard features including remote central locking, alloy wheels, electric mirror and front windows, air conditioning, and a six-speaker single CD audio system fitted with auxiliary iPod connection coupled to a 6.5" retractable display.
The Sport version adds bigger diameter wheels, sports seats, sports suspension, a Driver's Information System, and Bluetooth mobile phone preparation, while the S line model is upgraded with extras including bigger 17-inch alloy wheels, cloth and leather combination upholstery and S line sports suspension.
The three specification levels will be offered in conjunction with 1.6 TDI diesel engines and 1.2 TFSI petrol engines, while the 1.4 TFSI petrol engines will be offered with the S line and Sport options. The 1.2 TFSI petrol engine is exclusively mated to a five-speed manual gearbox in the entry-level model of the range. Its 86PS power and 160Nm of torque outputs enable an acceleration of 0-62mph at 11.7 seconds.
Another petrol engine, the 1.4 TFSI, which is offered with the S line and Sport options, is capable of delivering 122PS and 200Nm of torque, taking the car from 0-62 mph in 8.9 seconds. Meanwhile, the 1.6 TDI diesel engine, which offers 105PS and 250Nm of torque, can take the car 0-62 mph in 10.5 seconds.
