Audi is planning to re-develop the A2 mini car. This report was confirmed by the company during the 2010 Geneva motor show. The new A2 will be placed between the current A1 and A3 small cars, which were unveiled during the motor show last week.
Theres clearly room for another product and another concept between the A3 and A1. ...we gave the A1 that nomenclature (so) theres clearly room for another product and another concept between the A3. If you dont have to explain a car like the A2, then it works, said Audi CEO Rupert Stadler.
Audi will utilise its e-tron cars as a basis for the battery and electric-drive technology. The company had previously launched an e-tron sports car at the last Detroit Auto Show, and unveiled an e-tron A1 car during the Geneva Motor Show. The company plans to adopt the electric car version as a platform for its car models in the future.
According to media reports, the company will base its Audi A2 on the A1 car model, which was presented in Geneva. The Audi A2 will feature an electric power train and new styling.
The original A2 car model was manufactured in Europe from late 1999 until 2005. However, it showed very poor performance in sales and was panned due to its style and below-average performance.
German media has said that the Audi A2 is expected to be completed in 2014. The company has yet to decide on the US model.
