BMW and Peugeot developing low carbon engine

BMW and Peugeot developing low carbon engine 3 February 2010
Those with used BMW or PeugeotCitroen cars may be able to take advantage of a more environmentally-friendly engine the two firms are working on.

Extending an existing co-operation agreement to include the development of four-cylinder engines, both firms will now start work on low-carbon version of the gasoline device in order to meet European emission guidelines set for 2014.

The engine is currently used in most of the firms' models, including the BMWMini, Peugeot 206 and 308, as well as Citroen's C3 Picasso.

Norbert Reithofer, chairman of the board of management at BMW, said: "We have always been very successful in our cooperation with our partners, and that is particularly true with regard to PSA. We are delighted to continue our engine cooperation."

Both BMW and Peugeot have plans to collaborate on other components in the future, it was added.

It was recently revealed that a worldwide recall of potentially flawed pedals used by Toyota could affect owners of new and used Peugeot 107 and Citroen C1 models, which also use the faulty accelerators.
