BMW Z4 makes global debut in Detroit

13 January 2009

The global debut of the BMW Z4 has taken place at the Detroit Motor Show.

Motoring fans who have visited the Detroit Motor Show will be among the first to get a peak at the new BMW Z4.

The vehicle has made its global debut at the show, offering the latest edition of the classic roadster design and following the familiar concept of exceptional driving dynamics and elegant design.

Among the more modern features of the design are an extra-long front lid, low seating position and gill intakes for the engine, which help to signal the next generation of sports models from the BMW Group.

The new Z4 will be available to buyers in May and features the first fully-retractable roof in BMW history.

This roof both opens and shuts in 20 seconds, with owners of the Z4 able to get a thrill with the top down by accelerating to 62 miles per hour from standstill in 5.2 seconds.

Bigger thrill seekers can put the throttle to the ground and reach the 155 miles per hour electronic barrier.

Meanwhile, other vehicles from the fleet of the BMW Group also made an appearance at the show, including the latest ActiveHybrid technology offerings.
