Renault Renault has announced that it will be launching the Dacia budget brand in the United Kingdom by the end of 2012.
Originally, the company had planned to introduce Dacia in Britain in 2008, but it deferred from doing so because of the demand for the brand in other markets in Europe.
At the Geneva motor show, Renault Chief Executive Patrick PÃ?lata formally announced that it is now the right time to launch Dacia in the UK.
The companys first delivery for the UK market will be right-hand drive models of the Dacia Duster SUV, which was unveiled at Geneva.
Available on the Euro-spec Duster are three Renault-sourced engines, including two 1.5-litre dCi diesels with 107bhp and 86bhp, and a 105bhp 1.6-litre petrol version. The diesel engines have reasonable CO2 emissions with 135g/km of emissions for the two-wheel drive dCi diesel and 145g/km for the same-engine four-wheel-drive version.
The Dacia Duster is priced in Europe starting at 11,900 Euroes (about 10,800 Pounds) for the two-wheel-drive model to 13,900 Pounds (12,600 Pounds) for the four-wheel-drive version.
Renault will bring more Dacias to the UK in 2013, which include the estate and hatch models of the next-generation Logan. Presently, Logan is priced at 7,300 Euroes (about 6600 pounds) in Europe.
Every Logan comes with a warranty valid for three years, and the no haggle policy of Dacia is also expected to be implemented in the UK. As dealers are working on tight margins, they would not give any discounts. Renault said that there is no need to offer such incentives due to the strong demand for the cars in Europe.
