17 March 2009
Daihatsu has acquired a family-owned dealership in the Cornwall area.
Daihatsu has continued its battle with the economic climate by increasing its dealer network in southern England. The Japanese car manufacturer has acquired Mid Cornwall Cars, a family-owned dealership that has been in existence in St Austell for a quarter of a decade.
Some 11 members of experienced staff also make the move as part of the acquisition.
Dealer principal Kevin Tooley said: "We are delighted to be appointed to a franchise which allows us to work in partnership with, and that is synonymous with, reliable, low-polluting and economical compact cars."
Paul Hegarty, operations director at Daihatsu Vehicle Distributors Limited, added that there is an increasing focus among buyers for smaller cars, partly due to their environmental benefits.
"Big is not better anymore. Rather, small is smart," he concluded.
Among the vehicles that may take the fancy of used car buyers are the Sirion, Materia and Terios.
In a review of the Daihatsu Terios by What Car?, it was stated that the vehicle is both "practical and stylish".
