Bentley has recently released the details of the 6.75-litre twin-turbo V8 engine for the new Mulsanne. All Mulsanne engines are hand-manufactured and rigorously tested by Bentley technicians. Having powered a number of the most well-known cars under the Bentley brand, the V8 engine has been totally re-made for the new Mulsanne.
Every Mulsanne engine takes around 30 hours to assemble and comprises approximately 300 parts to guarantee that it is more fuel-efficient and powerful compared to its predecessors. The company has fitted the latest technology on the engine, such as two new control systems; variable displacement and cam phasing, which provide a higher level of refinement and almost a 15% cutback in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The car has been designed with the environment being one its main focus points.
The Mulsanne has recorded a combined fuel consumption rating of 16.7 mpg UK (16.9 litres per 100 kilometres).
With regard to engine statistics, it is capable of generating 505 bhp (377 kW/512 PS) and 1020 Nm (752 lb-ft) of torque. The car can sprint from zero to 60 miles per hour in just 5.1 seconds and can reach a top speed of 184 miles per hour. These numbers are remarkable for a vehicle weighing a hefty 2585 kilos.
After manufacturing each Mulsanne engine, they undergo testing on refined balancing machines to examine all of their spinning components. Later on, the engines run through a test cycle for 80 minutes simulating real-world driving conditions.
