Dont accept car insurance hikes automatically
29 January 2010
Drivers of new and used cars should not immediately accept higher renewal quotes on motor insurance.
Lee Griffin of Gocompare.com pointed out that car insurance costs are going up but urged people not to pay more than they have to.
Although the AA's recent insurance index showed significant rises in the cost of motor cover, Mr Griffin said that this does not necessarily mean consumers have to accept increasing premiums.
"The average price of the rates on offer and the best price for you are two completely different things," he explained.
He advised motorists to shop around and not to be afraid to switch if they find a better deal elsewhere.
It is important, however, to ensure that your car insurance always covers your requirements.
The AA's recent figures indicate that motor insurance took its highest price jump at the end of 2009.
Even its Shoparound index, which shows the average of the three cheapest quotes, saw significant hikes in both third party, fire and theft cover and fully comprehensive.
