Historics at Brooklands is putting a striking recreation of the iconic Ferrari 250 GTO up for auction on 25 September, at a fraction of the price of the real racer. The 1965 Ferrari 250 GTO Evocazione, based on an original, right-hand drive Ferrari 330 GT, was built to make a genuine replica of the only right-hand drive 4.0-litre 5-speed 250 GTO, produced by Ferrari to race at Le Mans.
The car's chassis was completed in 1993 and was sent to Italy where it was converted and shortened to suit GTO specifications. A hand-made aluminium body was then painstakingly sculpted, and the chassis was shipped backed to Britain for fitting by Ferrari experts.
The 250 GTO Evocazione features a range of correct GTO parts and accessories, as well as proves its visual accuracy with its original style gauges, original 400mm GTO steering wheel and correct seven-inch front and eight-inch rear Borrani wire wheels.
Specially designed as tribute to Le Mans racers, the car has also demonstrated action on the course, achieving several podium finishes and wins at the hands of well-known historic racers. Apart from being fully road registered, it also remains ready to race in different events.
According to Historics, with the recent high-profile sale of a genuine 250 GTO costing BBC Radio Disk Jockey Chris Evans a reputed £12 million, the 250 GTO Evocazione is expected to fetch a more manageable hammer price of around £240,000.
