Fiat eco:Drive wins Green Champion award
20 November 2009Fiat's eco:Drive technology has been acknowledged in a recent environmental awards ceremony, which may tempt used car drivers to purchase a vehicle with the green credentials.
The company was named Green Champion at the International Green Apple Awards presented by chief executive of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health Michael Cook.
By inserting a USB stick into a Fiat dashboard, eco:Drive records information about the way in which the motor is driven, which can be uploaded and viewed on a computer, helping people understand how their driving style affects their CO2 output.
Collecting the award was Luis Cilimingras, who was the brains behind the eco:Drive project.
He said the concept had won many awards since its launch a year ago for innovation and marketing.
"The Green Apple accolade is much more fulfilling, since it gives recognition of the work we have done for the environment," Mr Cilimingras remarked.
New and used car drivers were recently encouraged to reduce their CO2 output by cutting down their time on the road by the Department for Transport.
