Ford used car recycling scheme makes bumper savings
10 February 2010
The bumpers of used Fords are being put to good use for the environment.
Used Fords' damaged bumpers saved 70 tonnes of landfill in 2009 thanks to a scheme by the car manufacturer.Ford saved 23,000 damaged bumpers which would normally end up in landfills across the country and turned them into new bumpers and other plastic components.
In a bid to be more eco-friendly and save dealers time and money, Ford has done away with its previous scheme that saw dealers having to put old bumpers into skips and pay for them to be taken away. It then launched a nationwide scheme to combat the unnecessary scrapping of plastic.
Ford prides itself on its commitment to environmental sustainability. Last month the company unveiled its new Focus consisting of components made from recycled household waste such as old jeans to plastic bottles.
So far Ford's European recycling campaign has seen around 20,000 tonnes of waste diverted from landfill sites.
