Garages should make it easy for owners of new and used cars

The Vehicle & Operator Services Agency has called for more garages to sign up to the Motor Industry Code of Practice for Service and Repair.
Owners of new and used cars who never know which garage to opt for may welcome a call from one sector organisation. The Vehicle & Operator Services Agency (Vosa) has suggested more MOT centres should throw their weight behind the Motor Industry Code of Practice for Service and Repair.
Companies that sign up to this initiative agree to abide by a range of promises, including providing competent and conscientious staff.
Joining costs £75 a year, but Vosa said it is an important scheme as it indicates to drivers where they can go for good customer service.
Chief operating officer Alex Fiddes stated: "We would encourage MOT garages to sign up to industry codes and seek to improve standards for motorists."
Meanwhile, an independent review of the initiative recently found 95 per cent of the calls taken by the body responsible for implementing the scheme were from owners of new and used cars seeking advice, while five per cent were complaints.
