Jaguar prototype is fastest ever

The fastest ever Jaguar has been witnessed at a circuit in Utah.

The prototype of the Jaguar XFR could be the fastest Jaguar ever after the results of a secret speed trial.

A top speed of almost 226 miles per hour was registered by the prototype during a session at Bonneville Salts Flats in Utah.

To help the vehicle reach the speed, it was fitted with the all-new AJ-V8 Gen III engine, while a modified air intake and exhaust system alongside revised supercharger settings were also helpful.

Mike O'Driscoll, managing director of Jaguar Cars, said: "The all-new supercharged 510bhp XFR – and XKR – add a thrilling new dimension to the Jaguar line-up. We have sharpened the R models, fine-tuning them to deliver a totally focused experience for driving enthusiasts.

"This sharper edge – the quicker steering rack, outstanding grip and stability and improved stopping-power – has been achieved by using advanced Jaguar technologies."

Through using a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 engine, the vehicle is also able to accelerate to 62 miles per hour from standstill in 4.7 seconds.
The Jaguar XFR made a surprise appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed last year.
