Jeff Koons commissioned for BMW Art Car
04 February 2010
BMW's popular Art Car series will see Jeff Koons join the roster of world-renowned painters to redesign one of the firm's models.
Fans of used BMW cars may be able to see their favourite model redesigned by renowned artist Jeff Koons as part of its Art Car series. The programme began in 1975 and has since seen luminaries such as Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and Frank Stella turn popular BMWs into works of art - Koons will be the 17th invitee to do so.
While the 635 CSi, Z4 and M3 GTR have all seen unusual paint treatments in the past, it is thought that Koons will go beyond the brush to create something in his unique sculptural style similar to Olafur Eliasson's 2007 'frozen' car.
Frank-Peter Arndt, member of the board of management at BMW, said: "We are enormously pleased about Jeff Koons' eagerly anticipated contribution to the BMW Art Car series, celebrating its 35th anniversary."
BMW recently announced an extension to its collaboration with PSA PeugeotCitroen to create a more environmentally-friendly engine in time for new European emission guidelines set for 2014.
