Kia Motors UK has issued a recall for 6,585 Picantos and 468 cee'd models. The announcement came after discovering potential a fuel leak and faulty brakes.
In the case of the Kia Picanto, the harsh weather conditions in 2009-2010 has revealed that high levels of de-icing materials could damage the materias used for the fuel filter neck seal, which could potentially lead to a fuel leak. Picantos produced from November 2009 to February 2010 will be recalled for the free replacement of the fuel-filler neck.
Meanwhile, the Kia cee'd five-door, three-door and SW models built from April 2008 to March 2009 will be recalled to repair potential fault of the Electronic Stability Programme systems, which could result in insufficient or loss of braking power. The company is now contacting all the affected owners to fix the brake master cylinder for free.
"Safety is always our top priority and our on-going product assessment and research has revealed these two potential problems", said Hamish McCowan, After-Sales and Logistics Director of Kia Motors UK.
"We have immediately put in place a process to contact owners and the work will be conducted by Kia dealers at a convenient time for customers. I would apologise to any owner whose vehicle may be affected and at the same time I would like to assure them that we believe we are acting before anyone in the UK has experienced any issue", McCowan added.
