Kia has claimed it hopes to be one of the top four manufacturers of environmentally-friendly vehicles by 2012.
Motorists looking to buy used cars with excellent green credentials in the future may find themselves turning to Kia, if a recent announcement from the manufacturer is anything to go by.Hyundai-Kia has revealed it plans to become one of the top four producers of environmentally-friendly vehicles by 2012.
In order to achieve this aim, the firm is to invest almost £2 billion in the development of low-emission autos.
Commenting on the plans, president of the carmaker's European division Sun Yung Kim stated: "The Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group is determined to bring affordable and usable green technology to the European consumer."
In 2012, the company expects to release its fuel cell electric models in Korea.
The firm predicted demand for environmentally-friendly models would increase as the world emerged from recession and said it was determined to be ready to meet this growing need.
However, as electric vehicles are not necessarily a realistic option for many motorists at the moment, people may find the best bet to reduce their carbon footprint is to downsize to a more economical auto.
Drivers may discover they can secure a good price on a small model - like a used Kia Picanto - online.
