Land Rover has confirmed that it will launch a 2WD option, on top of the 4WD unit, for the new compact SUV Range Rover. The 2WD vehicle, which will go on sale next year, features reduced CO2 emission of just 130g/km, making it the most fuel-efficient model in the Range Rover range ever built.

JaguarLand Rover (JLR) has pledged to invest £800 million in producing environment-friendly technologies and reaffirms its commitment to developing cars having sustainable features in response to customer demands.

"Land Rover has announced that the all-new compact Range Rover will be available in 2WD. This is good news for the company and for our customers. A 2WD option is just one way in which we are developing our vehicles efficiency whilst adding to the Land Rover range and expanding our customer base. We will continue to make the 'world's finest all-terrain vehicles' for those customers who require 4WD but will also now offer an alternative to those that don't", said Phil Popham, managing director of Land Rover.

In line with the introduction of 2WD vehicles, the company will focus on three key technological areas to enhance powertrain efficiency, lessen the weight of Land Rover cars, and cut down parasitic losses. Also part of the major developments for the bigger cars in the range is the application of hybrid technology. The first diesel-powered hybrid cars will be available by 2012 and on tour by 2013. The company will conduct a series of tests for the first diesel hybrid prototype dubbed the 'range_e' by the end of the year.

Land Rover has more than 60 years of trusted experience producing supreme class vehicles with ground-breaking technology. It serves more than 160 nations around the world and constantly looks forward to developing new vehicles that would please its buyers.
