Lexus UK has issued a recall notice for 3,238 cars that could be potentially dangerous due to a rare engine issue. This was confirmed by the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA).
There is a risk that the strength of the valve spring inside the valve operating system of some Lexus engines may degrade, causing the breakage of the spring. If one of the springs located in the engine breaks, the engine warning light will illuminate and the engine will misfire. The driver may also notice rough engine performance or abnormal noise. To date, there have been no reported incidents related to the issue.
"We apologise for any concern and inconvenience caused to our customers by this campaign", said Belinda Poole, director of Lexus UK.
"Lexus take quality issues extremely seriously and we are intensifying our efforts to ensure they are minimised. As is the case with the valve springs, we will continue to take steps to ensure the quality of our customers' ownership experience is safeguarded", added Poole.
Lexus model ranges affected by the recall include LS 600h, LS 460, GS 450h and GS 460. No other Lexus models or Toyota cars sold in Britain are affected.
Lexus will contact all owners of the affected cars as quickly as possible. Owners will be asked to take their cars to a Lexus service centre, where the valve springs will be replaced for free with improved ones. The procedure will take approximately seven to 22 hours, depending on the model.
Lexus will also offer a replacement car for owners to use while their vehicle is being repaired.
Owners can find if their car is involved in the campaign by entering their Vehicle Identification Number on the Lexus website. A recall information page has also been launched on the carmaker's website, which has all the latest information.
